Door-to-door newsletter

In April 2020, residents of Durgerdam received a comprehensive newsletter by mail. This newsletter briefly summarizes the participation process to date and provides a step-by-step preview of the future. It also explains the current status of solutions for water safety and the design of public spaces.

Water safety

It was previously announced that the principles set out in the programme Integrated Spatial programme are not sufficient to achieve the required height of the dike. This applies to the western end and a small section near the harbor. In addition, a specific technical application (the residual width approach) seemed to have resolved the issue of macro-instability. However, further analysis has now shown that this solution still does not provide sufficient stability. Finally, the autonomous subsidence of (a number of) homes along the dike has an impact on how the dike can be designed.

Public space

Based on consultations with the public space working group, the municipality of Amsterdam has drawn up an overview plan. This plan includes details of parking spaces, passing places, the sidewalk, and the roadway. A number of variants are currently being worked on for how the roadway, parking spaces, and sidewalk can be constructed. In May, the drawing with the variants will be presented to the working group. The plans will then be shared with residents. We would prefer to hold a presentation with room for questions and possibly a discussion of the options: we will look into the possibilities for this.
