Newsletter door-to-door
In April 2020, residents of Durgerdam received a comprehensive newsletter by mail. This newsletter briefly summarizes the participation process to date and provides a step-by-step look ahead. It also explains the status of solutions for water safety and the design of public spaces.
Water safety
It was previously known that the assumptions in the Integral Spatial Program Durgerdam are not sufficient for the required height of the dike. This applies to the west end and a small section near the harbor. In addition, through a specific technical application (the residual width approach), the issue of macro-instability seemed solved. Now further analysis shows that this solution still offers insufficient stability. Finally, the autonomous subsidence of (a number of) homes along the dike affects how the dike can be designed.
Public space
Based on consultations with the public space working group, the City of Amsterdam created a survey drawing. In this drawing details have been worked out with parking spaces, passing spaces, the sidewalk and the roadway. A number of variants on how the roadway, parking spaces and sidewalk can be constructed are now being worked on. In May, the drawing with the variants will be presented to the working group. Then the plans will be shared with the residents. We would prefer a presentation with room for questions and possibly discussing choices: we will see what the possibilities are for this.
