Windmills are one of the most Dutch things you can think of when you think of the Dutch landscape. They are an integral part of our culture. This is one of the reasons why I chose to paint this windmill.
I also knew that this windmill by the water—in the neighbourhood I live—makes for a beautiful picture if you have an assignment to draw a water landscape. I took lots of photos of it in different ways and chose the best ones. Painting the reflection in the water was quite a challenge, but after a lot of time and effort, I managed it.
