Renovation of gas line starts August 2023
The renovation of the gas pipeline in Durgerdam will start after the construction period. The work is expected to run from mid-August to the end of September. A new, sustainable technique will be used: relining. This technique involves pushing a new pipe inside the existing gas pipeline, thus reducing the amount of excavation work required.
How does relining work?
- The pipeline is interrupted in two places and sealed with a bladder. This causes minimal inconvenience in the public space: instead of breaking open the entire route, two small sidings are needed
- The pipeline between the interrupted locations is partially removed. Detailed camera inspection follows each operation.
- The pipe is cleaned with high-pressure water and then blasted to ensure proper stocking adhesion.
- The stocking is coated with adhesive, which is blown into the pipe with air pressure. A UV light line is then drawn into the pipe to cure the adhesive faster. This seamlessly bonds the stocking to the pipe.
- The connecting pipes sealed by the stocking are drilled open and the pipe is reconnected.
