Gas pipeline renovation to start in August 2023
The renovation of the gas pipeline in Durgerdam will start after the construction industry's summer break. The work is expected to run from mid-August to the end of September. A new, sustainable technique will be used: relining. This involves pushing a new pipe into the existing gas pipeline, which means less groundwork is required.
How does relining work?
- The pipe is interrupted in two places and sealed with a bladder. This causes minimal disruption in public spaces: instead of breaking open the entire route, only two small staging areas are required.
- The pipe between the disconnected locations will be partially removed. Each operation will be followed by a thorough camera inspection.
- The pipe is cleaned with high-pressure water and then blasted to ensure good adhesion of the sleeve.
- The liner is coated with adhesive, which is blown into the pipe using air pressure. A UV light strip is then pulled into the pipe to cure the adhesive more quickly. This ensures that the liner is seamlessly bonded to the pipe.
- The connecting pipes sealed by the sleeve are drilled open and the pipe is reconnected.
