Cooperation with municipalities

We work together with a number of municipalities on remission. This means that your request for remission for the current tax year applies to both municipal and water board taxes. You therefore only need to apply for remission from one authority.

Please note:

  • Are you self-employed? Then you must always apply for remission directly to the water board. Submitting an application to the municipality is not sufficient in this case.
  • Would you like to apply for remission for assessments that do not relate to the current year? If so, you must do this directly with the water board.
  • Has the water board already made a decision on your request? If so, we will no longer consider any request received via the municipality. You can still appeal against the water board's decision (see the page Request for remission rejected).

How it works

We work together with the municipalities of Amsterdam, Drechterland, Edam-Volendam, Enkhuizen, Heemskerk, Hollands Kroon, Hoorn, Koggenland, Medemblik, Opmeer, Purmerend, Schagen, Stede Broec, Texel, Waterland, and Zaanstad.

The water board and the municipality will each make a separate decision on the request for remission. The water board's remission policy may differ from that of your municipality. It is therefore possible that the water board will reject your request for remission and the municipality will grant it, or vice versa. The water board is not obliged to adopt the municipality's decision, and vice versa.

When you apply for remission, you authorisation the water board authorisation provide the municipality with all the information necessary to process your request for remission.
