Sup it Up and Trashwalk for clean water

In this educational module, students get to work outdoors on the theme of Clean & Healthy Water. They learn about the work of the water board and, by providing knowledge and practical perspectives, take the first step toward a more sustainable water world.

The module starts with a guest lecture on the work of the water board and the pollution of lakes and ditches by plastic and litter in the Netherlands and elsewhere in the world. The students then go on an expedition on land or water: Sup it Up or trash walk.

Sup it Up

Equipped with a container, tongs, scoop net, or gloves, the students step onto a stand-up paddleboard. While paddling, they collect all the litter they encounter from the water. Even novice paddlers can do this, and we always start on the quay with an explanation of tips and tricks.

Sup it UP tackles litter both literally and figuratively. Upon our return, we separate the waste so that as much as possible can be recycled.

Everyone participating in this module must have a swimming certificate A.

Trashwalk

In groups, the students go through the neighborhood, into the park, or onto the beach armed with Balinese bamboo or wooden tongs to pick up all the litter they encounter. In this way, we set a good example, raise awareness, and, of course, clean up. So it's a win-win situation. When we return, we separate the waste so that as much as possible can be recycled.

The Loot

Back from Sup it Up or Trashwalk, and there it is... The loot!

We conduct a brief analysis of the waste collected. Is it waste or raw material? What do we do with it? What can we do about it? That plastic soup... what exactly is it? How does our daily behaviour influence it?

Questions galore. And based on our answers, we look at where our opportunities for improvement lie. Positivity! Every change is a change. Which one will you tackle?
