Improvement of Drechterlandsedijk/Walingsdijk embankment

Parts of the embankments around Ursem have been rejected and need to be improved. The water board will ensure that the embankment meets safety requirements for the next 30 years. On parts of the Walingsdijk and Drechterlandsedijk, the subsided sub-berm will be repaired, making it easier to maintain.

What's going to happen?

The problem with the Walingsdijk and Drechterlandsedijk dikes is that the lower embankment has subsided, making it difficult for equipment to access the area to mow and maintain the ditch. We are improving this by constructing a new access road and slightly raising the lower embankments in places and re-profiling them towards the ditch. Because these sections of the dike are part of the monumental Westfriese Omringdijk, these modifications have been kept to a minimum.

Who do we work with?

The project has little impact on the surrounding area. Through traffic will be disrupted as little as possible. Where residents, owners, and other parties involved in the project area may have their interests affected, discussions have been held to find the best possible solution for the area.

We are making agreements with the municipality of Koggenland about the necessary traffic measures. Coordination with the cable and pipeline operators took place during the preparation of the project.

Where is the project taking place?

The section to be improved runs along the Westfriese Omringdijk between Avenhorn and Rustenburg.

When will the project take place and how long will it last?

On April 3, 2024, the municipality of Koggenland granted the environmental permit (OLO 8069013).

As things stand at present, work is scheduled to start in September 2026 and continue until March 2027 at the latest. The tendering process for the work is currently underway. Stakeholders will be informed in writing of the final schedule as soon as the contractor has been selected.
