Improvement of the Kolhorn-Westfriesedijk embankment

We ensure the safety of the dikes in our management area (North Holland north of the North Sea Canal). We regularly check the safety of the dikes. Several storage dikes in the Kolhorn polder, south of Kolhorn, have been rejected and need to be improved. We will ensure that the dikes meet the safety requirements for the coming years.

Where does the project take place?

The rejected breast wall concerns the Kolhorn-Westfriesedijk wall, located in the municipality of Hollands Kroon. This wall is located south of the village of Kolhorn and runs along the Keern waterway.

What will happen?

The quays at the Kolhorn reservoirs no longer meet the required height and therefore need to be raised. This will be done by adding extra soil on top of the current dike. Preparations for this work are currently being made in collaboration with the Schmidt consultancy firm.

Who do we work with?

HHNK is the client for this dike improvement project. We are working together with Schmidt consultancy firm and discussions are being held with various farmers and other residents in the area who have plots on or adjacent to the dike. In addition, the municipalities of Hollands Kroon and Schagen are being informed about the work and, where necessary, coordination is taking place with both municipalities.

When will the project take place and how long will it take?

Currently, the design for the dike reinforcement is being made, after which the contract with the contractor will be drawn up and the permits will be applied for. Implementation is planned to be completed before the end of 2026.
