Improvement of inlet dike Mijzenpolder

Parts of the storage basin dikes around the Mijzenpolder have failed and must be improved. The high water board will ensure that the quays once again meet the safety requirements for the next 20 to 30 years.

What will happen?

The problem with the Mijzenpolderdijk is that it is 'inwardly unstable' in some places. This means that there is too much risk that the dike could slide off in the direction of the polder during high storage basin (ringvaart) water in combination with heavy rainfall. The most obvious solution is to make the inner side of the dike flatter and to widen the retaining wall by adding soil. This is not always possible because there are buildings relatively close to the dike. In those places we will make the dike more stable by raising the inner shoulder. At homes northeast of Schermerhorn and along the polder on the north side of the Mijzenpolder we will install sheet piling.

Who do we work with?

The project will have little effect on the surrounding area. The road will remain accessible during the work. Where residents, owners and others whose interests may be affected by the project area, discussions have been held in search of the best possible integration into the area.

We are making arrangements with the municipalities of Koggenland and Alkmaar to prevent traffic congestion during the work.

Where does the project take place?

The route to be improved runs around the Mijzenpolder.

When will the project take place and how long will it take?

Permits for the project were granted in spring 2024 by the district water board (Water Act permit) and the municipalities of Koggenland and Alkmaar (environmental permit).

It is not yet known when the work will start.

The quays that have been tested. The work takes place in sections MZ01 (partly), MZ10 and MZ03d.

When will the project take place and how long will it take?

Permits for the project have now been issued by the Water Board and the municipalities of Alkmaar and Koggenland. More information can be found at www.overheid.nl.

It is not yet known when the work will start.
