Improvement of the Wilmkebreekpolder embankment
Part of the embankment around the Wilmkebreekpolder has been rejected and needs to be improved. We will ensure that the embankment meets safety requirements for the next 20 to 30 years.
What's going to happen?

The problem with the Wilmkebreekpolder is threefold. In some places, the embankment is 'unstable on the inside'. This means that there is too much risk that the dike could slide towards the polder in the event of high water levels in combination with heavy rainfall.
In addition, the dike has become too low over time, allowing water to flow over it during high water levels.
Finally, the crest/top of the dike has become increasingly narrow due to erosion, causing it to almost disappear in some places.
To solve this problem, the crest and inner berm of the dike will be raised. In addition, revetment will be installed along the dike.
Who do we work with?
The project has little impact on the surrounding area. The road will remain accessible during the work. Where residents, owners, and other parties involved in the project area may have their interests affected, discussions have been held to find the best possible solution for the area.
We have made agreements with the municipality of Amsterdam regarding the necessary permits and preventing traffic disruption during the work.
Where is the project taking place?
The section to be improved is located on the south side of the Wilmkebreekpolder.

When will the project take place and how long will it last?
In March, we carried out a number of preparatory activities, such as cutting down the trees that are obstructing the flood defense. The actual quay elevation will be carried out around the summer of 2025, which will take several months.
- Week 29: installing exit ramp
- Week 30: delivering clay
- Weeks 31/32/33: no work due to construction industry holiday
- Weeks 34+35: installing revetment
- Week 36: applying the first layer of soil
- Week 39: applying the second layer of soil
- Week 41: final coat and finishing touches
- Week 42/43: tidying up
