Vision of the wastewater chain

We work continuously to ensure the availability and proper functioning of the water chain. Every day we treat wastewater produced by people and collected by municipalities for public health and water quality. This is how we contribute to the livability of our beautiful area.

The world around us is changing. The climate, technology and society are evolving. Developments affect and influence our work, including in the water chain. Cluster showers cause water in the streets, pressure in the subsurface is increasing, water quality is high on the political agenda, energy transition has begun and the Delta Plan for Spatial Adaptation must be worked out. So there is a big task in our path.

A circular and sustainable water chain is the starting point. We are looking for new treatment methods, such as purifying greenhouses and aquafarms, whether decentralized or not. Starting at the source remains one of the most important principles, because what doesn't go in, doesn't have to go out. Wastewater contains valuable raw materials and energy and is a source of fresh water. Where possible, we extract these values at acceptable costs. We cannot and will not do this alone, so we work together and in coordination with water chain partners, water system partners, knowledge institutes and companies. Together with municipalities and PWN, we are improving efficiency in the water chain.

Partnership Water Chain Noorderkwartier

The partnership Waterketen Noorderkwartier (drinking water company PWN, 33 municipalities and the district water board) is working hard to realize the savings ambition: from 2020 we will save € 30 million per year on drinking water, sewers and wastewater treatment. As a result, water bills for citizens will rise less sharply. Sign up for the newsletter 'Samen slimmer' (4x a year).
