Aquatic animal lessons at Hortus Alkmaar
Students in grades 4 through 7 are welcome at De Hortus to explore which animals live in and around the water. In groups of about 5 children, they carry out various assignments. They use fishing nets to catch fish from the pond and use a search card to identify what they have found. They then use an underwater viewer to observe life in the ditch and measure the clarity of the ditch water. The children also learn which plants grow near the water and why these plants are important for aquatic animals.
Two supervisors from Hortus Alkmaar will be present. Sufficient adults from the school or after-school care center are required to supervise the groups. The aquatic animals lesson lasts approximately 1 hour. The date and time can be planned in consultation. This lesson can be booked from May to October.
