Water animal lessons Hortus Alkmaar

Students in grades 4 through 7 are welcome at The Hortus to explore what animals live in and around water. In groups of about 5 children they carry out different tasks. They scoop fish from the pond with fishing nets and use a search card to see which ones they have found. Then they look at the life in the ditch with the underwater viewer and measure the clarity of the ditch water. Furthermore, the children learn which plants grow near the water and why these plants are important for aquatic animals.

Two supervisors are present from Hortus Alkmaar. Sufficient adults from the school or BSO are needed to supervise the groups. The water animal lesson takes about 1 hour. Date and time can be planned in consultation. This lesson can be booked from May to October.
