450 years of Leeghwater 1575-2025

Jan Adriaensz. Leeghwater is a household name in the Netherlands. Almost everyone knows the name of this hydraulic engineer and windmill builder, who was born in 1575 in the village of De Rijp in North Holland. In 2025, it will be exactly 450 years since his birth. This will be commemorated in the 'Land of Leeghwater' between Alkmaar and Purmerend with special theme days, an exhibition in the Rijper Museum, a Leeghwater glossy magazine, and, last but not least, a 'Leeghwater 450' postage stamp (see Leeghwater 450 andLeeghwater 450 years).
