Dredging by HHNK
HHNK is responsible for dredging part of the waters in the management area. In practice, this means that HHNK dredges approximately 6,300 kilometers of waterways.
To keep the shore stable, we do not dredge close to the shore or remove solid soil.
Where and when do we dredge?
We perform dredging work in both rural and built-up areas (urban dredging) and in our basin waters. We also program the work in these categories. We do this because different dredging methods are often required here, there is more consideration for the environment or it is simply not needed as often.
The Dredging Projects in Preparation and Execution page shows our multi-year schedule for dredging.
Receipt and cleanup obligation
The duty to receive and clean up means that owners of adjoining pieces of land of waterways are required to receive and dispose of the dredge.
Compensation for dredging
For receiving and processing the dredge, the landowner receives a fee or we process the dredge. When the work is finished, the landowner will receive a letter to apply for the fee. The landowner does not receive a fee if the dredge pump is used. The fees can be found in our Water Soil Policy Plan.
What does the Omgevingswet mean for dredging at HHNK?
On Jan. 1, 2024, the Omgevingswet came into effect. This law affects dredging activities. For example, the spreading standard has become stricter and dredging can be spread further. We are closely monitoring the changes and adjusting our activities accordingly.
