HHNK is responsible for dredging part of the waters in the management area. In practice, this means that HHNK dredges approximately 6,300 kilometre waterways.

To keep the bank stable, we do not dredge close to the bank and do not remove solid ground.

Where and when do we dredge?

We carry out dredging work in both rural and built-up areas (urban dredging) and in our reservoir waters. We also schedule the work in these categories. We do this because different dredging methods are often required, more consideration must be given to the environment, or simply because it is not needed as often.

On the page Dredging projects in preparation and implementation, you can see our multi-year plan for dredging.

Obligation to accept

The obligation to receive means that owners of adjacent plots of land bordering waterways are obliged to receive the dredged material.

Compensation for dredging

You may be eligible for compensation for receiving dredged material. You will be informed about how this works before the work starts. The landowner will not receive any compensation if the dredging pump is used. The compensation amounts can be found in our Waterbed Policy Plan.

What does the Omgevingswet mean Omgevingswet dredging at HHNK?

TheOmgevingswet cameOmgevingswet force on January 1, 2024. This Act has an impact on dredging activities. For example, the dispersal standard has become stricter and dredged material can be dispersed further. We are closely monitoring the changes and adapting our activities accordingly.
