Ground investigation on dike between Medemblik and Enkhuizen

What will happen?

The high water board has the public task of ensuring water safety in our area. In order to fulfill this task, we are working on a monitoring study and test of the IJsselmeer dike between Medemblik and Enkhuizen. The purpose of the study is to gather more information about the structure, subsoil and strength of the dike. This will be done in various ways: through drilling in and near the dike, taking soil samples and installing monitoring wells to measure the groundwater level in the dike. The company Wiertsema & Partners is a specialist in the field of soil research and performs this research for us.

Where does the project take place?

The probing, drilling, and placement of monitoring wells will take place on and along the primary IJsselmeerdijk between Medemblik and Enkhuizen (see the black line in the figure below).

What do you notice?

Survey vehicles will be used on the levee during the work. Below are two examples of survey vehicles being used, which you may therefore encounter.

The survey will take place both on and off the embankment. Prior to the field work, the exact locations will be reviewed and recorded with marker posts. You may be asked by the executing party not to place vehicles along the road on the dike on specific days. In order for the survey to run as smoothly as possible, we would kindly ask you to cooperate. No major traffic detour are required for the work, but temporary barriers will be placed on the road on the dike. To announce the work, traffic signs will be placed in the project area, and the temporary work site will be demarcated with pylons.

When will the project take place?

Ground investigation will be conducted in several phases. The work will take place from Monday, June 16, 2025 (week 25) to the end of September 2025 (week 40).

Who do we work with?

The work is being performed by geotechnical investigation firm Wiertsema & Partners.
