Clean water

Water experience

In summer, many people enjoy activities in and on the water in North Holland, such as canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding, swimming, and boating.

Do you also think clean water is important? Then you can do something yourself to keep the water clean: don't flush rubbish down the drain, only flush the 3 Ps down the toilet (poop, pee, andtoilet paper), and pick up litter. Want to know what else you can do? Then take a look at the tips.

What do we do?

We ensure that the dirty water from your toilet, sink, or bathroom is purified at one of our sewage treatment plants and then discharged back into the waterway in a cleaner state. We do this for all residents (in North Holland above the North Sea Canal) and also for businesses. We purify the sewage water using 15 sewage treatment plants. Bacteria provide a natural purification process. With new innovations, we are also extracting more and more energy, raw materials, and micro-pollutants from the sewage.

Because, what actually happens when you flush the toilet or take a shower? We'll show you how it works at a wastewater treatment plant.

What can you do?

Fortunately, there are also various ways in which you can contribute to clean water in and around your home. Think of: picking up litter so that it does not end up in the water, and only flushing the 3 Ps down your toilet (toilet paper, pee, and poop).
