Vote for your favorite artwork by Han Fortmann exam students
Which artwork from our exhibition "Spotlight" will be the public's favorite? You can help decide by casting your vote.
Nine students from Han Fortmann (Trinitas College) in Heerhugowaard created a work of art as their exam assignment for the subject of Drawing. They chose the polder landscape near the Kaagmolen and the historic pumping station as their source of inspiration. The assignment is a collaboration with HHNK. You can vote for the top three until February 8 using the voting form on the Featured page !
Water Board Member Klazien Hartog, chair of the expert jury: “Once again, it was difficult to choose the top three this year. These students stood out because they carried out the assignment with courage, skill, and insight. These qualities will support us in the challenges of the future. Thank you to all participants, and here's to another ten years of successful collaboration.”
Assignment
On a late summer afternoon, the students cycled between showers to the Kaagmolen and the historic auxiliary steam pumping station in the Kaagpolder between Opmeer and Obdam. The students were given the assignment to study the light in the polder. What about backlighting, reflection, and cast shadows, and how do you capture those effects? The students used the etching technique for this assignment. Water board member Klazien Hartog: "All the etchings accurately reflect our work, where dealing with water and wind are daily challenges. Rembrandt's hand inspired the students in their etchings."
Historic location
The Kaagmolen, built in 1654, and the adjacent steam pumping station from 1879, together form a unique piece of drainage history. From steam engine to diesel engine and finally electricity: this place tells the story of centuries of water management.
Anniversary edition collaboration
This project marks the tenth collaboration between the water board and Han Fortmann. Each year, a water-related exam assignment takes center stage. Especially for this anniversary edition, favourites previous years have also been collected.
Who are you voting for?
