Up in the clouds!
Thirteen students from the Han Fortmann (Trinitas College) in Heerhugowaard were inspired by the cloudy skies in the North Holland landscape as part of their examination assignment for the subject of Drawing. They set out in search of primeval Dutch cloudscapes over the polder, the sea, ditch and puddle.
Types and sizes
Clouds fascinate. For centuries, artists have been captivated by the beauty of that mass of tiny water droplets propelled by the wind. No cloud is the same as another. We distinguish all kinds of clouds such as pile clouds, cauliflower clouds, sheep clouds and veil clouds.
Not only are clouds beautiful to look at; they also affect our lives. They bring shade, rain, hail and snow, and they are the harbinger of storms and severe weather. Clouds are fascinating and sometimes even terrifying. And so ... worthy of painting!
Collaboration
This was the eighth time the Water Board has partnered with the Han Fortmann (Trinitas College) in Heerhugowaard. Each time, the Water Board gives a water-related exam assignment. The results are part of both a digital and a physical exhibition in our office. We are over the moon with the results!
A panel of judges from the school and the Water Board selected a Top 3 from the eight works. From these Top 3, the public determined the final winner. That became Britt Denneman's piece of work.
